Rose: “Do we work well with other people as a close pair? We make it a bit difficult, [but] we found out we had a bass player built in.” Donny Farrell: “My sisters, I’ve known them for my entire life, so it made it easier to integrate into Yee Loi.” Rose: “We don’t really challenge each other, because we think the same, we were raised the same. I know what’s good for the band, and so they would never disagree.” Matilda: “All three of us are really close. We all have the same idea of where we want the band…

In 1989, Rick Rosas visited Broken Arrow Ranch ahead of rehearsals for Neil Young’s Freedom album. Armed with a video camera, the bass player documented the winding drive through the grounds, startling the occasional deer along the way or slowing down to let a cow cross, with the ranch house itself and Young’s infamous barn studio briefly coming into view. Nearly 40 years later, Young has repurposed Rosas’ footage to accompany “Second Song”, the title track from his new album. Unspooling against the song’s wistful, 11-minute meditation on memory and loss, it serves as a useful guide to the record…

Bursting out of the York music scene is Rosso Tierney, and the new song from the multi-instrumentalist is a high-octane alternative rock song with plenty of grit…. ahigh-octane, cinematic rock anthem packed with mid-noughties nostalgia, fiery guitars, and explosive energy. You can really hear how powerful the track is way before it fully gets going. The intro alone reminds me of those songs that you would hear in the mid-noughties on the FIFA soundtracks. As the seconds tick by, the track will eventually erupt at the 40-second mark into a stunning chorus with soaring vocals, powerful drum patterns, and guitars that…

I’m so happy forPrettyOnTheInsideto be back in print. COURTNEY LOVE: Vinyl has…

You will know him primarily as the bare-chested, perma-flexing bassist who brought the funk to LA’s alternative rock scene of the ’80s and ’90s, as the Red Hot Chili Peppers evolved from unruly party-starters to surefire stadium-fillers. But Flea has always had a healthy extra-curricular career, playing with Damon Albarn and Tony Allen in Rocket Juice & The Moon, with Thom Yorke in Atoms For Peace, collaborating with Patti Smith, Tom Waits and countless others… and not to mention his memorable cameo as a nihilist in The Big Lebowski. This year he revealed another string to his bow, returning to…

Listen up, survivors. AMC’s The Walking Dead is an absolute cultural juggernaut that has had its fair share of video game adaptations over the years, and this is definitely its simplest and most fun entry, in my view. If you like classic beat ’em ups like Streets of Rage, and you love TWD, then this is for you. Obviously. Of the previous games, some are absolutely legendary (we still shed a tear thinking about Telltale’s narrative masterpiece), and others that are best left rotting in a ditch somewhere outside Atlanta (anything VR-related alienates too many players, in my view. But…

The late 1970s produced several classic breakup records. The romantic collapse of ABBA’s two couples fuelled a succession of bittersweet pop hits, while Marvin Gaye turned the end of his marriage into an entire double album. But few records wear their heartbreak as openly, or as successfully, as Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours. A comparatively modest 39 minutes of music, it has shifted a staggering 45 million copies and come to define the band’s West Coast, sun-kissed soap opera of sex and drugs. Fleetwood Mac had been a veteran, primarily blues-based British concern until the arrival in 1975 of the young, romantically…
