Video Premiere: Rachel Swain Ghost

Here is the latest single from Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Rachel Swain. With humour, Swain refers to Ghost as her “Divorce song,” but it is actually a deeply personal song about how we continue to be haunted by our past relationships. This sensitively written song explores that ongoing connection we have with someone we thought we’d moved on from. Those stirring, uncomfortable feelings can catch us by surprise in a blend of sadness and anger, confusing emotions that Swain captures effectively in song. Written at a difficult time in her life, Ghost delivers intimate reflection through a classic country sound. Swain’s powerful, melodic country vocal rises above warm bass from Adam Gardner and Ryan Joseph Anderson’s electric strum. Throughout Ghost, Gabriel Stutz’s wistful, weeping pedal steel flows in tuneful currents, the haunting sound of resignation and regret; it’s perfectly fitting for this heartfelt reflection on the lasting impact of lost love.

Created by Louis Holland, the well-shot video places us in the studio with the band, capturing their skills and chemistry and Swain’s emotive vocal delivery. This is finely crafted and beautifully performed, serving as an absorbing introduction to Rachel Swain’s work.

Ghost appears on Swain’s new album Neon Lullaby, which is out now. Swain combines her classic country and rock influences, inspired by her Texan upbringing, to create a distinctive, soulful sound. Her songs explore universal human themes through personal experiences and performances that are full of feeling and heart. Absorbing stuff – check it out.
