Wellington artists Will McClean and Young Gho$t are back with their second collaborative single, “No Giving Up,” landing April 24th, and it signals a clear shift in tone.
Where their first release, “Sippin’ On The Wine,” leaned into a more laid back, reflective space, this new track feels sharper and more intentional. Built around a soulful sample, steady drums, and layered melodies, “No Giving Up” centres itself on a simple but resonant idea: persistence.
There’s a quiet confidence running through the record. Both artists take a measured approach, focusing less on dramatics and more on consistency, showing up, staying grounded, and trusting the process. It’s not about struggle for the sake of it, but about discipline and long term vision.
As a preview of their upcoming joint album, the single deepens the themes they have already begun exploring, growth, patience, and self awareness, while highlighting the chemistry they have developed through years in Wellington’s music scene.
The project itself is fully collaborative. McClean handles production, shaping the sonic identity from the ground up, while Young Gho$t brings a precise, composed vocal presence that balances and elevates the sound. The result feels focused and uncompromising, a partnership built on trust and clarity.
With a full music video also, “No Giving Up” offers another glimpse into a project that is clearly playing the long game.
Will McClean sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infmaous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
Music has always been prevalent in our home growing up, usually loud haha. The love has been there from the beginning thanks to dad being in a band, and mum blasting albums from the hilltops.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Sheesh, so many to mention. Loyle Carner for sure, his vulnerability never ceases to inspire.
Tom Scott, went to a show when I was 17, then immediately began writing and pursuing since then.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Currently in the middle of an album the roll out! A full length collaboration album with UK born Young Gho$t, that I produced in its entirety, and both wrote and recorded to. (My faves are “Sippin’ On The Wine” and “No Giving Up” if you’re looking where to start).
4. How would you describe your sound?
Jazz-rap hip hop, with lyrics reflecting introspective authenticity.
5. What’s your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
We played this amazing gig with my band a couple years back in my hometown, so many homies, family members and wondrous humans were in the audience.
And getting to do it alongside some incredible musicians that I am blessed to call friends, so special.
