Joe Alonzo on TNA, chasing the World Championshop & being a lone wolf – Soundsphere magazine

Soundsphere sat down with recent TNA signing Joe Alonzo about his plans for Bound for Glory and beyond now that he’s a full member of the TNA roster.

Soundsphere: How does it feel to be a TNA wrestler now?

Joe Alonzo: I mean, I think you should ask Carlos Silva, “How does it feel to have Alonzo as part of the TNA roster?” Because that’s a lot. If you look at the videos and the stuff I posted, one video got like 30 million views. So, I’m bringing views to TNA. So, you should ask that. I mean, it’s no different. No matter where I go, views are gonna follow, whether I’m signed to TNA or not. So, I mean, it’s cool. It’s good for everyone. Families eat for generations.

Soundsphere: TNA is now on the road to Bound for Glory, on Sunday, the 11th of October. It’s TNA’s biggest event of the year, arguably one of the most important pay-per-views on the wrestling calendar – will we get to see Joe Alonzo that night?

Joe Alonzo: I think the probability is high. I mean, they gave me the date. They said to keep it open, so I’m assuming. I had a match with KC Navarro, my official debut on the roster. It was a qualifying match to go to Bound for Glory for the X Division title. And unfortunately, I came up short, thanks to Leon Slater, by the way. So, we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. But I think Joe Alonzo is a lot bigger than the X Division. That, me personally, I think I’m more like TNA World Championship material.

Soundsphere: Let’s talk about Leon Slater challenging Nick Nemeth for that at Bound for Glory. You might want to get your lick back on Leon. So, would it be more suitable for you to fight Nick for that, or would you hope Slater wins it so you could potentially take it off him?

Joe Alonzo: I think it doesn’t matter who has it. I mean, I just want the title. I don’t care how I get it. I just would like that. I mean, it’d be cool to get in there with someone like Nick, who’s a legend himself. And I mean, everyone knows who Nick Nemeth is, so that’d be cool to steal some of those views.

But then Leon, I think I would just feel genuinely better about that, just taking that from him because, I mean, he took my moment away from me. So why not take that away from him? I don’t know. I mean, I like revenge. Revenge sounds cool, but either way, success is the best revenge, so it doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t matter, man. As long as it doesn’t matter whose name is in that match. As long as you just see Joe Alonzo, TNA World Heavyweight Champion. That’s all you need to see.

Soundsphere: Have you considered joining forces with and tagging with KC Navarro after your debut match with him? You two could be quite the team.

Joe Alonzo: I don’t want to share the spotlight with anyone. I don’t want to team up with anyone. I don’t work well with others. I like doing my own thing.

Soundsphere: How’s TNA been as a home to you so far?

Joe Alonzo: I still feel like a guest here, ask me in a year! I think that a lot of people are sleeping on Joe Alonzo, and they have for a long time. I’ve said it before. I felt like the signing with TNA should have happened a long time ago, and it’s happening now.

I’m going to play catch-up now that I’m here at TNA. I like stirring the pot. I like pissing off the locker room. I like kind of making the office question my decisions. It’s fun. Let’s see what happens!
