If you’ve been craving the cold, grim energy of early black metal, you’re going to want to keep a close eye on Hexbane. This isn’t just some random new project; it’s a proper gathering of titans who have been in the trenches since the genre’s earliest days. The band has just pulled back the curtain on the artwork and initial details for their debut EP, From Hell.
The lineup is a absolute “who’s who” of extreme metal history. We’ve got The Magus on vocals (The Magus, ex-Necromantia), George Emmanuel on guitars (Lucifer’s Child, ex-Rotting Christ), Tas Danazoglou on bass (Friends of Hell, ex-Electric Wizard), and Faust behind the kit (Djevel, ex-Emperor). With a pedigree like that, you know they aren’t here to play nice.
The guys have made it clear that Hexbane was born out of a genuine nostalgia for the primal days of black metal. They aren’t interested in over-producing things or adding unnecessary bells and whistles. The goal is simple: pure, unadulterated proto-black metal that honours the aggression of the era that started it all. We’ve actually kept tabs on these members over the years, including catching Rotting Christ at Bloodstock back in 2019 – read our full review here.
From Hell is slated for release this September via The Circle Music and Hell’s Fire Records. If you’re a vinyl collector, mark your calendar for 6th June 2026, which is when pre-orders for the 7″ EP officially go live. We’re told to expect more details over the coming months, but for now, it’s looking like a proper treat for the old-school fans.
