Well that’s it from us for this week, a week in which we said goodbye to our longtime writers Paul Kerr and Martin Johnson, both of whom died at a very similar age within a few days of each other, and whose eulogies noted each found something of a second calling in life following retirement by writing in these pages, which was a lovely thing to hear. We will come back to them in the near future through two new annual awards we intend to introduce named after each of them so their names will live on here at AUK. More details on that soon but for now, thanks again for everything to these two champions of AUK and the genre more broadly, we plough on without you but the site will never be quite the same.

Don’t forget we still have some tickets left (36 now!) for our 25-year anniversary event which comes to two stages across Liverpool’s Rough Trade venue and Quaker Meeting House next month with performances from Chuck Prophet and the Echo Strings, Steve Wynn, Dean Owens and the Often Herd among others. Tickets are on sale from this link. We’d love to see you there.

We leave you anyway this week with the opening track from the latest album by This is Lorelei aka Nate Amos The Singer in My Band which I’m obsessed with at the moment called I Will Eat My Heart in the Morning Light – there’s a chord change around 0:22 which is then repeated in the song later on which just breaks my heart in the space of all of 2 seconds. It’s just such a lovely lovely piece of music, do worry it’ll stop giving me goosebumps at some point but we’re not there yet.

Take care, don’t forget Palestine – children are continuing to be killed, 268 since the so-called ceasefire according to the UN– and keep fighting those fascists. See you next week.

Americana UK has ongoing running costs. If you have enjoyed reading this post, please consider supporting us for £2.99 a month.
